Our market started in 1997 when a handful of farmers in Nelson County decided to form a private cooperative to help local residents have better access to fresh local produce. 

​

They set up their first market on property owned by Joan Gibson in Nellysford. When Joan passed away, Wintergreen Real Estate permitted the farmers to move to their property. Today, CHFL LLC. and Wintergreen Property Owners Association generously allow the use of their land at the entrance of Stoney Creek/Wintergreen Resort as home to the Nelson Farmers Market Cooperative. The Virginia Extension Office assists with promotion of our market.

 Over 25 years later, the Nelson Farmers' Market Cooperative continues to support our local farmers, processor producers and craft vendors to bring a wonderful variety of products to our community.
